Rabbi Shmuly Presents an Award in Tokyo, Japan (June 2, 2026)
"In Tokyo Japan tonight teaching & presenting a leadership award to a rising star in the Japanese-Jewish world.
Even amid the torrential rain of today’s typhoon, the kindness and warmth of the Japanese people have shone through.
What makes Japanese society breathtaking is not merely its efficiency or beauty, but the rare cultural achievement of millions of people coordinating daily life through an extraordinary ethic of mutual respect, responsibility, and consideration for others.
My friend and colleague, Rabbi Andrew Scheer, is an incredible rabbi leading the Jewish community in Tokyo & it was a delight to join him to celebrate the growth of a young Modern Orthodox leader, Kai Schinaman, with a J.J. Greenberg Torat Chayim Young Leadership Award.
I feel driven to find young talent around the world, to celebrate their leadership, amplify their emerging voices and learn from their moral vision. May we continue building compassionate spiritual communities locally & around the world together."
